A Genealogy Website for my Maternal Ancestors of
Berkshire, Essex, Middlesex, Norfolk, Northamptonshire,
  Oxfordshire, Suffolk and Surrey, England

At the beginning of 2004 I started some minor research into the provenance of a small family heirloom which has been passed down through the female line of my family (daughter-to-daughter) - and this website is the result!  New information is added regularly, and the last update was in December 2007.

Please note that this website deals only with my maternal ancestors, covering the following surnames:

Surnames in my grandfather's family:    BALLARD, DIXON, GREENE, HARROD, HILL, HINCKLEY, INGRAM, LANGLEY, LENTON, NIXON, ROWLATT, SEWELL, SHARMAN, SYRETT, TUNSTALL, WATERS, WHYATT

Surnames in my grandmother's family:  ADAMS, ARCHER, BALDWIN, BROCK, BRUSE, CAM(B)DEN, CASTLE, CORALL, CRACKER,  E(A)GLESTON(E), EDGINTON, EVERTON, FIELD, FREWIN, GREEN, HADDOCK, HADLY, HAMPSHIRE, HERBERT, HITCHCOCKE, HITCHMAN, HUGGINS, HUNT, JOHNSON, KNITE,  LAIGHT/LAITTE/LAITT/LAIT/LOYT, LAY/LEA/LEY/LEIE/LEYE, LEGG, LONG, LORD, MARTEN, NIXON, POPE, REEVES, RILEY/RYLEY, ROBERTS, SLATER, STEPHENS, WASTIE, WATSON, WHITLEY, WOOD(S), YATES

AHNENTAFEL NUMBERS

Ahnentafel (from the German Ancestor Table) numbers are simple way of numbering the generations.  Taking yourself as 1, your father will be 2 and your mother 3, your paternal grandfather will be 4 and paternal grandmother 5, your maternal grandfather 6 and maternal grandmother 7.  Therefore, a person's father is always twice his own number, and his/her mother is twice his own number +1.

Ahnentafel numbers, where applicable, are shown next to names in the alphabetical index.
